Why do rented movies disappear from iTunes?

I rented The Crucible for a plane trip. I transferred it to my iPod, only to realize that listening to a movie on that tiny screen with all the airplane noise is not the most pleasant experience. Now, back from my trip, I want to watch the movie on my computer- however, I cannot seem to find it or, for that matter, any record of it ever being there. Help!!
