Explain to me y=mx+c and how to multiply fractions ?

Okaii so I know that in y=mx+c m is the gradient and c is the intercept, but how do you work out the gradient of a line ? I know it's something like rise/run but I still don't get it! Also i've forgotten how to multiply fractions ! Help anyonee ? Thankyou
