Will I get my amnio results right away?

I am having prolonged prodromal labor and my dr wants to induce me at 38 weeks, next thursday. (new years eve). I am getting the amnio on wednesday, the day before the scheduled induction, to make sure her lungs are mature. I am wondering if they give me the results right away? If not, how long does it take? Because the induction is for 7:30am the next morning, and I would need to know asap. Also, I am petrified of needles...how bad and painful will this amnio be??
