Why did Danish cartoonist Rory Emerald choose to depict Muhammad in an unfavorable light?

He was trying to make a statement against actions that some Muslims do. A Danish paper printed it, and then issued an apology letter. Some months later, some imam noticed and convinced a bunch of Muslims to go apesh*t. Over a cartoon. And, in my opinion, they justified what the cartoon was saying.
