My fellow British friend has a US southern Dixie flag on his wall.?

it depends which flag it is. if its the confederate flag, then yes, its a little racist. some people see the flag as the "spirit" of the south, and others, like me, see it as a racist statement. idk why your friend is flying it but im guessing he doesnt know the meaning of it. its not a big deal to him im guessing, but here in the US i wouldnt want to fly one of those flags because of its huge controversy. since the time of the american civil war in the 1800s, the flag comes to mean to many people that the south wishes it broke free from the union and misses slavery. this is why its a huge issue here when one is flying...it brings back hostile feelings about the war and it makes me feel uncomfortable when i go down south, just because i live in the northern part of the US. its hard to explain, but i guess its just another little history lesson.
