Ammonia for cleaning br?

I have been told that ammonia will take the finish off br. I've been looking for ammonia without additives because they say it is not as strong with them in it. Does anyone know if you can get it without them. I know it is used for making methamthetamine but i'm looking for a small amount such as a pint.
